As Summer Begins
by Vaughn Neeld
On the bank of the estuary,
houses shaded by summer-green trees,
appear empty.
The season has just begun. Soon
boats will arrive packed with fishing gear
and sun-dressed people.
Weathered docks, listing along the shore,
stand ready for bare feet, buckets of worms,
bathing suits, and fishing poles.
But, for now, under an overcast sky,
an empty boat rocks quietly,
the scene hushed–a still-life of expectancy.
