Waiting for the Clouds to Clear
by MFrostDelaney

An inlet bay, a murky scene, the house
that keeps the keeper sheltered from wind’s flow.
Another house beyond, perhaps with field
where sowing’s never done. There is no yield
of blooming plants or food. They just won’t grow
where salty sea air leaves a heavy douse
of sea spray drifting in on summer breeze.
These dwellings, neighbors on the inner point,
sit quietly and somber. Sky is shawled
with clouds all gathered for a storm, and stalled,
awaiting nature’s word to rain – anoint
the air with freshness meant to clear and please
the lighthouse keeper and the neighbor who
live day to day, their lives at nature’s cue.
