A Golden Shovel Acrostic for Louise Glück
by Sharmagne Leland-St.John

Luckily she hadn't broken a bone-
Oscar said she looked terribly pale
Usually her skin was of an olive tone...the
Incident left her a bit confused; this most recent
Slip and fall. The path was covered with black ice and snow
Either she wasn't paying attention or the way she fastens
Galoshes and boot straps was at fault. She didn't like
Leather in the winter; she preferred boots covered in fur
Üntil she took a nosedive on the winding pathway to
Check on the
Kittens that had been born in the boathouse down by the river.
