Sunrise, by Sharmagne Leland-St. John

Early Morning in New Mexico
by Vaughn Neeld

To the east,
a burst of pink-tinged light shines
through a billowing veil of icy clouds
draped about distant mountains
shivering blue upon the horizon.
Newly fallen snow reveals a pathway
between snow-humped mounds
of desert shrubs huddled together
as if to share warmth.
Icicles cling to the posts
of a latilla fence to create
an upright corduroy covering.
I salute the morning
and close the door.
