Walk Away
by Candace Turner
Fingers clenched,
cold hands tremble in pockets
I walk away
Footprints erased by a
dusting of fresh snow
He calls my name
begs forgiveness
I keep walking until
his voice vanishes in the distance
My cheeks glisten
with tears camouflaged by
whispers of wet snow
But I won’t look back
The future is forward
Freedom feathery as snowflakes
waits for me
