Dream Weaver
by Ed Bennett

"Vacant shuttles weave the wind"
                                             TS Eliot

If I cannot have you
I will conjure you
with a pirn gliding swiftly
across the empty warp
of my longing.

The weft will come
from vivid dreams
that you've granted,
unknowing, in your eyes,
or so I would believe.

I will work the loom
lit by a gibbous moon
curious of this lover
who neglects his bed
for self imposed labor.

And one day we will touch
to the click and thump
of the loom's approval,
the labor complete,
the thread entwined.
