My Love
by Marcia Wright Payne

I want to try to tell you just how much you mean to me,
But it’s like trying to tell someone about the waves upon the sea.
Where do they start, where do they end, they’re a steady ebb and flow.
Just like them, though our love is strong, it seems there’s always room to grow.

I want to try to tell you about the measure of my love,
But how does one describe the vastness of the sky, or the stars above?
The galaxies have been known to man nearly from the start,
And though, like them, love’s a mystery, I’m glad yours won my heart.

I want to try to tell you about the strength from you I need;
But how does one explain the way the mighty oak grows from a seed?
The strength of the oak starts oh so small and gets bigger with each passing year,
And that’s the way our love has been, as to me you’ve grown more dear.

No one knows what tomorrow holds by looking at their past,
But I can say for certain how long my love will last.
Just like the sea waves keep on rolling, and the stars come out each night,
Like the oak gives shade to the weary, I know what we have is right.

For more than forty years we’ve shared our lives, and given life to two,
I know that through the years ahead I will always count on you.
And when the final chapter’s written, and we close our Book of Life,
I will have known rich blessings because I was your wife.
