Tonight we had a party
With friends old and new
They came to eat
And did just fine
They even drank our brew.
Tonight we had a party
The people came in droves
They parked their cars
Across the drive
So no one could go home.
Tonight we had a party
They came and brought their wine
I raised my glass
And made a toast
But sang their song, not mine.
Tonight we had a party
The food we had was great
We all sat down
And ate our fill
From our laden plates.
Tonight we had a party
Our friends were all around
They sat and talked
Until they tired
They drank, but didn't drown.
Tonight we had a party
At last they all went home
They got their cars
And drove away
That's why I wrote this poem.
