Snow
by Sharmagne Leland-St. John

snow where dunes once
radiated summer’s heat
snow on heath and heather
snow on shoreline
bone white snow
in vivid contrast
against ink black branches

railings and slippery stairs
bleached by decades of sun
now blanketed

snow falling on cedar
the world groggy
slumbering
beneath an achromatic quilt
worst snow storm
since eighteen hundred and sixty-one
snow falling on Richmond
an alabaster flurry of powder

towhee’s sporadic diatonic song
punctuates the dawn
