Snowflakes Falling at Night
by Michael Escoubas

Their visit is only for a moment
and sad will be tomorrow
when they go, but Oh, their coming
the way they tumble down
amid the breathless whisperings
of the wind, the hushed whoosh
that spins them down and around
flitting and fluttering feathers
loosed from the wings of stars.

To see this, to sense this, one must have
a mind of winter,
a mind attuned to weather–
one must know that we are like the weather–
we have life, but it is a life that comes
full circle, where even winter has its moments.
