Winter Welcomes

When
the wind howls with abandon through barren trees

When
tapering icicles dangle dangerously in a slight breeze

Here comes winter

When
the air you breathe causes your nostrils to freeze

When
your teeth chatter and your teary eyes flow

Here comes winter

When
sight is blinded by the crystalline clarity of sunshine bathed snow

When
fireplaces belch smokey scents of damp burning wood; you know

Here comes winter
