Winter Welcomes
by Candace Turner
When
the wind howls with abandon through barren trees
When
tapering icicles dangle dangerously in a slight breeze
Here comes winter
When
the air you breathe causes your nostrils to freeze
When
your teeth chatter and your teary eyes flow
Here comes winter
When
sight is blinded by the crystalline clarity of sunshine bathed snow
When
fireplaces belch smokey scents of damp burning wood; you know
Here comes winter
