Two poems written by ellen

Daybreak

Is never late enough
I try to swim back
to a watery dream
of lips
and hands
and pelvis
but the sky
walks over me

appeared in Caprice

First Memory

I am four
in a wooly
green and white
bathing suit
wading
in a Newark gutter
after summer rain

Father carries
me upstairs
slips off
my soggy suit
pats me dry
and powders
o so gently
my chafed
thighs
