Genesis

I gaze upon
the artist’s world
imagining her Spirit
hovering
above the landscape of life
hovering
over the formless deep
of her canvas, its surface
waiting for a word
from its Maker.
The artist speaks:
Let there be light
and color and movement.
Let the panoply of blues
and yellows and greens
converge, merge, divide, then collide …
like the world
in which we live. Let the words
on my canvas replicate
the world we see, the world
not simple nor easily solved.
As her Spirit
hovers
over the expanse of the deep
I sense
an ever-expanding enchantment–
life-source combined with life-force
breath of life made fresh
by brush on canvas
portioned out unto my heart.
