Mount Wilson
by Sharmagne Leland-St. John

   ("the evening sun turned crimson"
from the book title by Herbert
    Hunke.)

Wild mountain flowers
bloom in crevices
high above the cloud line
the evening sun turned crimson
so we began our descent
along the winding ribbon roads
another day almost gone
faded into yesterday

the evening sun turned crimson
Scotch broom scented
the cool forest air
all we wanted was
for this summer day
to last forever, but

the evening sun turned crimson
then dipped below the horizon
to make way for the sunrise
of a brand new day
