Embers
by Dan Fitzgerald
How easy it can be
to sit in the twilight,
thinking the day is done
and it is time to rest.
But light still shines,
with the fire of day,
showing a way
to postpone the dark of night.
So do what you can
to explore the diminishing shadows,
finding what they will reveal.
And if the dark takes it all,
leave behind some embers
of the day’s burnings,
protected and hidden if need be,
to start the fire
of a new dawn.
