Can I write a Villanelle?
Random thoughts get in my way
If I don’t succeed, please don’t tell

Trapped within this poetic cell
Concentrate, sit still, stay
Can I write a Villanelle?

My rhyming skills are shot to hell
A headache will be my price to pay
If I don’t succeed, please don’t tell

I’m determined to ring that annoying bell
If I must, I’ll sit here all damn day
Can I write a Villanelle?

Sometimes I think I hear its knell
I’m going in circles, oy vey
If I don’t succeed, please don’t tell

Conjure a witch’s spell
Or just give up and pray
Can I write a Villanelle?
