Two Tanka
by Patrick T. Randolph

Magic Man

His hands carve pine blocks—
This wood becomes small sparrows,
His whistle their voice;

Skilled fingers create curved wings,
His love for wood creates song.

Lonely Kitchen

Betrayed by her mind,
She passes the days alone,
Wrapped up in tights thoughts—

This spinster in her cocoon
Denies the butterfly’s song!
