Oxygen
by Michael Escoubas

Their time together was quiet,
and the words on the page were spoken
as if there was no book.
Just two boys and their Dad.

The sky and clouds and sun-drenched sand
conspired to create a restful atmosphere–
a place of peace on a summer’s day.
They needed this before returning to

life’s commotion: the blare of horns
and shouts of Do more, get more.
Their time together keeps them together
in an uncertain world. The three of them,

fathers and sons living and breathing,
and leaning into the words–closeness
captured in a father’s baritone voice,
resonating with love’s palpable presence.
