Summer Lament
by Sharmagne Leland-St. John
The days crept by slowly
as they often do in June
but the weeks of summer
fly by rapidly
and summer's gone too soon.
Wading in a tide pool
the water brisk and cool,
building castles made of sand and
dreading "Back to School"
The month of Strawberry Moon,
then Buck Moon and Corn Moon
and summer's gone too soon
The days crept by slowly
through winter yule til spring break
as children sat at desks in schools
dreaming of summer by the lake
night skies freckled with shining jewels
The days crept by slowly
as the months rapidly flew
