Alley
by Bing Hua
Tr. by Liu Mei

May or June
Soft rain gentle wind moves through all
Into a sleeping alley it falls
A dreamlike myth written across the wall

A woman leans by the window side
Bathed in the hush of afternoon light
Bright eyes kindling at the alley’s far sight
Burning with the heat of July bright

May or June
Gazing far to October or November’s call
On the wall of the alley
Another ardent verse then stands tall
