Rheinstein Windmill House Overlooking Ditch Plains in Montauk, NY ~Ben Kasazkow
Dust to Dust
by Cheryl Miller
And, so it is
that the bigger they are
the harder they die.
Ancient pyramids still bake
in the tan of North Africa;
those a hemisphere away
still sizzle and steam
in the green.
Across Europe, Medieval castles
survive, strong and cold,
protectors of bats and badgers,
compatriots of their ilk.
And further along
on humanity’s contests
for entitlement
come family mansions
in pursuit of the exclusive,
the scenic, the superior,
soon left standing, abandoned
in but few generations.
What does it mean that one doesn’t find
an ancient tipi in Oklahoma?
