under dark and cloudy skies 
derelict and brooding 
fallen by neglect and rains 
deserted 

still you stood 
above Ditch Plains 

built during the “Golden Age”
you became a page in Montauk’s  history

then a force of nature took its course 

through hurricanes and winter’s clime 
the cliffs eroded over time 

windmill moved from  
Sandpiper Hill
by Peter Beard or so I’ve heard. 

to house his art 
and diary collection 
oil lamp caused fiery combustion 

The mansion upon the moor 
Is no more
