A Quiet Buzz

Each unvisited stamen and carpal almost feeling shame
It was late summer and the flowers’ time almost done
Waving in the warm breeze, still hoping for pollination
Over the months, various insects had come and gone
But the bees had not yet visited, for no known reason
And it was now getting significantly late in the season
Some were very concerned, with much to think upon
Perhaps a whole hive had experienced extermination
But before petals closed again at the setting of the sun
A quiet but insistent buzz, and then the bees came
