My Lady Went Planting
by Sharmagne Leland-St, John

My lady went planting
  and gathering thyme
She sowed her seeds in circles
  around the pine
My lady went courting
  and singing a rhyme
She sent her arrows whirling
  in grim design
My lady sipped tea
  made form sassafras bark
Her arrows they flew 'til
  they found their mark
My lady went loving
  she found her a man
But he was a rover
  she's alone again
Down to the orchard
  down to the sea
Across the soft meadow
  and up through the lea
She fondles the sweet grass
  she picks the wild flowers
She remembers the man whom
  she gave all her hours
She strolls through the woods
  she skips down the lane
She laughs in the sun
  she weeps with the rain
My lady she weeps
  her bittersweet tears
My lady she dwells on
  the long ago years
When my lady went planting
  and gathering thyme
She sowed her seeds in circles
  around the pine
