West Texas
by Linda Fuller

In a little house
by the railroad tracks
with a man I thought
was the love of my life

We shared a little bed
while the wind outside
howled and moaned

How wild was the wind that night?
wild as the bite of a devil's tongue pepper
wild as the ravaging javelina
wild as a flash flood
but not as wild as my deluded heart
