Young Grief
by Marcel Aime Duclos

He cries silent tears
alone in that year with
the wind in the willows.

He sits quiet, alone
in the damp earthy shade.
He cries silent dry tears.

In the stillness of grief,
he waits, holds his breath for
the wind in the willows.

The farm dog by his side,
safe from sight and from sound,
he cries silent dry tears.

Boy of five, far from home,
he seeks cool comfort from
the wind in the willows.

The bark, dark and furrowed,
soft textures his heart while
he cries silent dry tears–
the wind in the willows.
