An Endless Giveaway
by Lenora Rain-Lee Good
You cannot hold the current of a river in your cup–
you cannot mail warm rays of sun to a friend–
you cannot hold the song of a bird except in your heart–
you cannot carry too much water in the desert–
you cannot hold the wind in your hands–
you cannot dance without motion–
you cannot eat without causing death–
you cannot write without an imagination–
you cannot track a coyote without knowledge–
you cannot hold the wind in a pillowcase, a plastic bag, a pickle jar–
you cannot meditate without intention–
you cannot fish in a dry creek bed and expect fish for dinner–
you cannot see the holes in your memory but know they exist–
you can give away every smile you have and never run out!
