A Breeze That Made My Day
by Elayne Clift
A breeze blew in from a bay, blowing this way and that,
As if there were an urgent message to be shared.
Feeling uneasy I stood still, then slowly crept away.
The breeze followed me and became a whirlwind,
Whipping around my head like a dancing dervish.
What spirit had followed me, and why, I wondered,
Looking toward the pastel sunset sky to provide a clue.
As its color slowly faded, the wind settled down,
And a gentle breeze returned,
Whispering in my ear, something I couldn’t hear,
So I sat upon soft sand to welcome a secret
The breeze wanted to share. Soon it didn’t matter,
For I was soothed by the cooling air that encircled me,
As peacefulness overtook me and I sighed
In gratitude for the breeze that blew in from the bay
That day, and made me glad to be alive.
