Evening on the Bay
 by Vaughn Neeld

He could see the water’s feathery wisps of foam and the stars
playing hide and seek through the clouds. —Tom Clancy

At water’s edge, I stood gazing out to sea.
The sun had set, and still I stood, irresolute.
Life seemed too stark, too dark.
At my feet, wisps of foam formed fairy boats
that soon dissolved as others came ashore—
a metaphor of life’s entanglements.

Above me, among the clouds,
stars played hide and seek with the moon
as a breeze blew in from the bay.
