Le Petite Jardiniére
by Sharmagne Leland-St.John

I set my pansies out today

Planted them in earth of clay

Compost mixed with moldy hay

I thought that was the easy way

As I set my pansies out today

The petals bright, the faces gay

To attract the Stibochiona nicea

A fancy name for popinjay

Who watched from not too far away

While I set my pansies out today

A breeze blew in from the bay

Scattered dead leaves every way

That's where the snails are prone to lay

I set my pansies out today

With subtle tender achy sway

Now my back the price shall pay
