The most beautiful autumn forest in the world, by Sanghyan Jeong
Sunset Road
by Lenora Rain-Lee Good
Lovers walk the old trace
that quiets for the coming night
the sun hangs low, turns leaves
to living flames, offers soft peace
to the lovers–no highwayman of olden
days to step from the trees, pistol drawn
and cocked, demanding money,
jewels, food, or promising death.
Lovers stroll the sunset road
wear jackets of polar fleece
instead of buffalo robes, designer
walking shoes instead of moccasins,
carry cameras with phones attached
to record their memories
instead of sketch books or canvas
for plein air paintings.
Lovers, oblivious to all but this
paradise, forget the gloaming
until it arrives, laugh as they
search their way in the falling
darkness using phone flashlights
instead of the old oil lamp. Hug
when free of the trace, hug to
lock another memory for their future.
