Food Fight
by Mark Fleisher
Under the oak trees
fallen leaves strewn
this way and that
collateral damage from
the noisy scuffle of
grays and reds and browns
squirrels that is, tails puffed,
high-pitched chirps coupled
with rapid chattering, all
to intimidate rivals, all bent
on sequestering enough
acorns so larders
are replenished before
winter snows arrive
