A Profusion
by Annette Gagliardi

There is such abundance of color and design–
           each bud-anticipation of a bloom;
Each petal heralds things to come.
           Every leaf a shield to guard the cream.

So too, the profusion of color and design
           in classrooms around the country.
Our genetic bricolage offers such sublime variety.
           it is a veritable potpourri.

Some blossoms are so fair & light, they are almost a whisper.
           Others so intense the color fairly shouts across the distance.
Boisterous bouquets in a riot of color
           while others are quietly lovely, or distinctly simple.

So many similar, yet always slightly different.
           like snowflakes, each brown-eyed boy
and Black-eyed Susan comparable, yet divergent.
           Not a single one ordinary.
