Searching for Ararat
by Cheryl Miller

And so it will go,
and not for the first time.
The Pacific will slosh
over deserts, into the mountains.
It will leave sharks, starving,
chewing on lichened gravel,
to leave teeth high in the Rockies.
Lemurs will stare in wide-eyed wonder
at kiwis and kangaroos
as Gondwanaland plates rejoin.
Albatross will find no place to call home.
Electromagnetic waves will pulse
through feverish faults.
The earth will retch volcanoes
in damp valleys most curious.
Tigers will wash north, taste salmon
for a bit.
Morrocco will twist to cuddle
the Iberian Peninsula,
reuniting Islamists and Catholics.
Satellites from all regions,
all religions,
will wrestle headwinds
to rescue remnants of this age.
