Trick-or-Treat
by Cheryl Miller
Busy in the kitchen last night,
they were,
those breezes and branches
and dryads,
all green and gossamer.
Kneading and pounding,
they sent leaves and acorns flying
hither and yon,
out and about,
but always down,
down to their coming realm.
Scattering and clattering
they fell atop the cake of ancient layers
under the oak trees.
Squirrels now gallop
among the scallops
in search of knitted cap treats.
