Claudia's Song
By Sharmagne Leland-St. John

Many a young rose dies on the vine
The brier and the wild rose intertwine

Snail trails glisten on the garden walk
The tales they would tell if the flowers could talk
Yesterday a leaf fell down
Gold and crimson to the ground
Now the wind has swept it far away
The stillness is like a faerie glade
The green moss grows in the heart of the shade
The blue-jay shrikes, a whippoorwill calls
Ivy is creeping up the cold stone walls
Tulips lay napping in their rich dark beds
The daisies are nodding their scented heads
The sundial counts the hours that have passed
While you lay sleeping
The trees are tall the breezes fast
Some say the summer sun won't last
Many a young rose dies on the vine
The brier and the wild rose intertwine
While nestled in amongst the flowers
The sundial counts the hours
