Motif 1, by Rick Yenofsky
“Motif #1”
Rockport, MA
by Priscilla Turner Spada
Shingled houses spread along the shore,
clustered in small enclaves by the sea.
The wives of fishermen wait by the doors.
This has been quaint Rockport’s history.
Our distinct red fishing shack is now
well-known around the world, artistically.
Scads of paintings, photographs, somehow
have zeroed in on its tranquility.
This icon of a simpler life still sits–
becalmed below nature's painted sky–
despite the tourists searching for some glitz;
up and down the streets they troll for gifts.
That crowd is missing from this camera’s eye;
this image shows a peace one cannot buy.
