As Thoughts Fly, by Deborah DeWit

Black-feathered Ascension
by Gay Williford

Small flowers border
my magical window
in this action-filled scene.
The lift-off of a murder of crows
is set against a waning sun
that back-lights a cloud-spattered sky.
My focus follows this tribe
as it ascends–intent on their mission–
be it for food or a gathering.
I imagine I am riding on one’s back
as we fly–“straight as we always do”
to our evening destination!
