Morning in the Woods
by Sharmagne Leland-St.John

(after The woods are lovely, dark and deep
… Robert Frost “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”)

Red leaves swirl across the wooded trail
Owls hoot in unison
Before the break of dawn
Eagles soar above the lodgepole pine
Redwing blackbirds awaken with a yawn
The woods are lovely, dark and deep

Far away a nightingale trills
Reminding us of summer evenings
On the hill
Sparrows flutter in the trees
The woods are lovely, dark and deep
