It’s Halloween in July
by Jeannie E. Roberts
The aisles are stocked with witches and bones;
glass goblins and ghosts, dragons and snakes.
July’s a better month for double-dipped cones.
From floor to ceiling, corpses and crones
gather together as do vampire stakes.
The aisles are stocked with witches and bones.
Inflated mummies and ghoulish green gnomes
grin near the wrinkled-Grandmama drapes.
July’s a better month for double-dipped cones.
Skeletons shake as robotic Lurch moans
to the seasonal sounds of spooky mixtapes.
The aisles are stocked with witches and bones.
Dracula dances beside rest in peace stones
as spiders suspend beneath grim reaper capes.
July’s a better month for double-dipped cones.
Stores offer the usual knowns and unknowns,
like pumpkin decor and Frankenstein flakes.
The aisles are stocked with witches and bones.
July’s a better month for double-dipped cones.
