“Autumn Tangle” (1920) by William Henry Holmes

Kaleidoscope …
by Paulette Demers Turco

                        of autumn hues–
orange, yellow, gold, vermillion–
dazzles in the morning light,
fluttering on a gentle breeze,
leaves gradually cascading down
as if confetti strewn about
in rich, ecstatic harmony.

Inspired by Calliope,
the wisest Muse of all, no doubt,
each trunk now dons a glamorous gown,
trailing beyond the realm of trees
as sheltered verdant leaves fight flight
in this arboreal pavilion
rustling their own late-harvest blues.
