The Orchard in Wauconda
by Colleen McManus Hein

Once an autumn, we drove north
Crushed inside a pea-green Volvo
Thankful for one final Sunday
Of stolen summer sun. Amidst bees
Buzzing brash and brazen, we pinched
Each pock-marked pomme, faces
Raised to a season’s hallowed harvest.
