“Autumn Tangle” (1920) by William Henry Holmes
Welcome to Fairie
by Candace Turner
If you are blessed with a sense
of wonder. A belief
in the magic of the universe,
you may be permitted entry.
You must journey the
secreted pathways.
Fireflies, sprites,
pixies & dryads, visible only
to the pure of heart,
will guide you to
the warmth of the Sealie Court.
If you are a deceiver, black of heart,
you will become
entangled by thorny
bushes in an unfriendly forest,
endlessly searching for a way out.
Seeker, I must caution you.
Those who live within our kingdom
must be contented to remain, for
we hold many guarded secrets.
Without the blessing of the Sealie king
you may not leave and he is unwonted
to bestow such a request.
We welcome you today, tomorrow,
and all of your remaining years.
