Achoo!
by Candace Turner

The green unending carpet of summer
Achoo!
Finds me lost in an ocean of tissues
Achoo!

After many a summer spent blowing my nose,
itching my eyes, Achoo!
Summer weekends are now spent on watery shores
Ahh, a clear head, only seaweed to contend with
on the beach

The seaside’s crashing waves,
squawking gulls, serenade &
lull me into a sandy afternoon nap

5pm and the beach empties
Happy hour on the boardwalk
Dreaded traffic clogged drive home
keeps me sober

Hours later, finally home
Achoo!
Open the windows, achoo!
Turn on the shower Achoo!

I’m home
