Autumn Afternoon

Nestled at a path’s end
resides a mustard-yellow cottage,
shuttered in blue
with white flowers hugging its base.
Dark trees have shed leaves
by an abandoned wheelbarrow
which awaits its owner.
He has paused in his raking job,
on this quiet autumn afternoon,
as long shadows stretch
in this serene scene
where a cozy, humble home
welcomes one’s return.
