Brief Interlude
by Gay Williford

After many a summer
at the seaside,

I still dream of my flirtation
there with Liam.
Lost to the past
is the passion we felt,
the fun we had together,
the sweet serenade
he composed and sang
each summer evening when
all seemed so possible
leading us to assume
everything was as certain
to continue as
the unending waves
that caressed the shore.
