Prelude
by Vaughn Neeld
...after the watercolour by Hamid Saadati

Late afternoon sunlight
shines obliquely across shadowed
grass as leaves slowly fade
from summer green to autumn yellow.

In patient anticipation
of the coming season’s harvest,
a well-worn wheelbarrow lists
over a yet un-littered path.

Within the quiet of this waning hour,
silent windows outlined in blue
blankly stare as if they, too,
await what is to come.
