Deserted beach,
A scavenging of seagulls
Glide effortlessly in a pink morning sky.
Seaweed hieroglyphics strewn on sand.
The lighthouse, an afterthought.

Labor Day weekend 1983 –
A baby growing in her womb
From last night's lovemaking...
Ocean waves lulled her to sleep.
Due date Memorial Day weekend 1984.
The baby arrived early,
But now seems
Always to be late
That is her fate
