"A Michigan Lighthouse on a Montauk Shore” ~ Painting by Sharmagne Leland-St. John
Marooned by jacob erin-cilberto
a desolate lighthouse
always just out of reach
it sits, beckoning strangers
drifting past a desolate beach
a curving cliff
just a few feet high
but foreboding as if it were mountain high
guarding the tides slamming
against a shore of boredom
perhaps the beacon might startle
the strangers should it suddenly commence
to shine
but alas
so many years of disuse
much like a poet’s pen
run out of ink
has no life left in it
it sits, beckoning the poet
but like the lighthouse
he would startle readers
if he suddenly commenced
to shine again.
