Realization
by Marcel Duclos

Oh! I recall the days
when living rooms were parlors,
where genteel folks visited on Sundays–
how sofa, chairs, doilies, and lamps
had their assigned place,
and nothing else belonged.

But now-a-days
we have family rooms
where the big screen reigns,
grandkids’ push to compete with
skeins of wool and knitting needles
when a sweaty Peloton intrudes unannounced,
to claim its place.

How the living will change
when a hospital bed invades, and
Hospice gentles the dying.
